DEWALT D51431 1-Inch to 2-Inch 16-Gauge 1/2-Inch Medium Crown Stapler
The DeWalt D51431 Heavy Duty 1-to-2-inch 16-gauge 1/2-inch Medium Crown Stapler features a lightweight design with enhanced maneuverability for minimized user fatigue. With a cycle rate of 20 fasteners per second (at 100 psi), this stapler provides a speed rating that works as fast as you do. A low air-consumption rating consumes less air per shot, allowing the tool to cycle faster and more consistently, and a clean nose area aids in a more exact fastener placement. A tool-free jam clear feature eliminates downtime from bent fasteners caught in the nose piece, and a tool-free depth adjustment assists in locating an ideal depth setting. Other features include a tool-free 360-degree exhaust that channels air and dust away from the user and a trigger lock-off that allows the trigger to be disabled when not in use. This stapler comes with a pair of DeWalt safety glasses, two Allen wrenches, and a replacement sequential trigger.
With so many on offer these days, it is great to have a name you can trust. This item is certainly that and will be a perfect buy. The distributor have added some great touches and this equals great value.

Needs Break-in
As received the staples wouldn't feed properly. Talked to DeWalt and "They just don't have any problems with this model. Get it replaced." Gotit replaced but meanwhile the original worked better every time it was used.

The rplacemement arrived- a quick check showed the staple feed area to be extremely tight also. I sent the replacement back & kept the original.

I expect the tool will become superior with a little more break-in time - or I may just take a little sandpaper to the bar over which the staples slide. I'm using Bostich 1/2 X 2 staples. These are galvanized - another brand or non-galvanized staples might feed OK.

Well worth the price
I used to attach metal lathe to sheathing for cultured stone application on a new home. Impressed with the quality and price. Does skip a staple once in awhile but not an issue.
my staple gun dose have a feed problem
I just received my staple gun and I am having a problem with the feed. as another reviewer said I think it will break in and be an exelant gun. I will probably take mine apart and sand the slide so that staples move smoothly through the gun. It seems to only be hanging up near the front, (due to the paint). as for the sequential trigger problem that another reviewer mentioned, my gun came with two different triggers so if you don't like the way it is firing you can change it. All in all I feel it is a good gun for the price. I bought mine from grizzly 99.95 on sale.

SO FAR SO GOOD
January 21, 2012.

If this Porter Cable staple gun works for a very long time without breaking down, I will be most satisfied. I am building a boat and have a way to go.

The gun is very lightweight and easy to handle. It loads easily. I am using 5/8" staples. Press the release, slide the slide open, and load staples. Close the slide and allow it to snap shut. In front of the trigger a wheel allows the operator to set the staple deeper or shallower into the material, depending on use.

I purchased poly line separately and hooked up to a tiny compressor. After shooting ten or so staples the compressor turns on but manages to always keep up.

AUGUST 30, 2012 UPDATE:

After firing 21,000 staples, the gun broke. But to be fair with Porter Cable, I must add that I work with epoxies and use the gun to staple down plywood that has been epoxied. Therefore epoxy gets on and in the firing point of the gun. When purchasing a new stapler, I...

Great little stapler
Works very well at the prescribed air pressure. It never misses a lick. I use this gun every day building cabinets, jewelry boxes and other things. I have the 18ga brad nailer as well. The perfect pair in my little shop.

Heavy duty
Heavy duty stapler. Doesn't missfire. A box of 16,000 staples will run about $80-$100 as of 2012, but you can find them cheaper if you look for sales. Basically stapling will save time an money. Because you can use 3-4inch to 1-1/4inch crowns it gives you a wide variety of staples you can use. A box store will almost certainly carry a type the gun can use.

If you are in an area with high winds, local building code may require special engineering. But with tar paper or housewrap... why bother with expensive caps and nails? The gun is also very light with a low clearance to get under overhangs.

Not sure if I would use staples for sheathing, but it would certainly be safer for any people that may be standing behind the sheathing as you fire. Nail guns are the leading cause of death on construction sites for that reason.

Hope that helps.
Great Product
Great product, would suggest checking local building codes before using for roofing, however, I love this stapler!! couldnt ask for a better gun!

questionable quality, but works well
Questionable quality. I've had the gun just over a month and found it easy to use, lightweight, nice balance. I was fairly impressed. Then it just quit working, I'm guessing a seal ruptured somewhere inside b/c it just leaks instead of firing.
If I could get hold of someone at customer service I would find out what is wrong for sure, but they don't answer the phone, even during their limited office hours, and seemingly don't respond to their email. I'm sure it's still under warranty, but probably won't be by the time I finally get hold of someone.

UPDATE:
The leak was apparently the result of a seal getting dry on the shelf and coming unseated. It was a quick DIY fix. Since then, I've been using it regularly without any problems or complaints. I'd change the rating to a 4* if I could.

It's cheap but works fine
I wanted a cheap stapler that works well enough for my needs (occasional use). This really fits the bill. I have other Campbell Hausfeld air nailers and they all work fine.
Bargain Stapler is a Wowser
This Little beauty is way more than I expected. I've only had it a short time but it is seemingly well made, performs very well and has features like the depth adjustment for the amount of penetration into the wood, which allows for proper use on both soft and hardwoods, and a very ergonomic soft grip handle. I highly recommend it. I don't think that, for the price, it can be beat.

soldering iron
I've used many brands of nail guns with various prices and qualities. The Hitachi Narrow Crown Finish Stapler definitely one of the best considering the low price. Light, and easy to use, it also has a switch for single shot or bump action which is wonderful. Most homeowner will feel much comfortable with single shot and able to check how many staple left with exposed rail. With a short practice, most people can gain most of the control of this staple and use it with ease. It has no problem driving 1 1/2 into wood and I felt it doesn't use much of air pressure as my compressor stay quiet longer than some other nail guns with similar capability.

The only thing I don't like is the kit does not come with sample staples and lubricant. It is not that I don't have them at home but it means the case does not design with designated places for those. minus one star for that.

Mighty Mouse
One thing I will add that the other reviewers did not mention is that this stapler packs a heck of a wallop. The power of this lightweight unit really amazed me.

The truth is, I did not know what to expect. I have never owned an air-powered stapler or nail gun. I planned to use this Hitachi stapler to put up kraft-faced insulation, and then later use it for trim work. Yeah, right. I loaded it with 0.50" staples. They went right through the paper tabs on the insulation and kept on going into the studs. I had to look hard to find them because they had been sunk so deeply.

I turned the air pressure down to 70 PSI, which is the minimum operating pressure and set the stapler's depth adjustment to minimum. No dice. Too powerful! I went back to using my Arrow T-50 Carpal Tunnel Syndrome Special.

I decided to get to know this little monster better. So I ran a test to see what it could do. I loaded it with 1.50" Senco staples and fastened a piece of...
excellent tool
The Hitach is a nice looking tool, light weight, and it is cool. When loading the bolt draws back and locks. Staples fit over the rail tightly, but slide smoothly, release button is easy to operate and positive (not sloppy).

The stapler needs at least fifty pounds of pressure, but will sink the 1.25 inch staples perfectly into pine at that setting. It uses little air, so the compressor isn't called on much.

In "automatic" bump mode this gun will shoot all day. I was stapling 3' lengths of chicken wire to a wooden frame. The gun has never jammed.

As much as I hate manual staplers, I love this tool!

It is a joy to use, and accurate. I highly recommend this tool.
